For the first half hour there was little to choose between the sides as Nelson matched their high flying opponents. Steve Maden's chip picked out Lance Ogunyode to the right of goal who turned inside the defenders but pulled his left foot shot inches wide of the post after five minutes play.
An excellent move came after 13 minutes, when Marc Taylor's cross was headed on by Lance Ogunyode to Ashley Higgins in a good position but his final pass was cut out by defenders.
A series of good attacks by Nelson were cut out in the final third by a decisive home defence who showed typical determination to twice clear Luke Hargreaves' powerfully driven low crosses from their goalmouth after 28 minutes.
But the Blues had a let off after 34 minutes when Jonathan Sheldon's cross from the left was headed down in the Nelson goalmouth and Chris Smith hooked the ball over the bar from six yards. And Nelson conceded a simple goal after 37 minutes when Chris Boast headed in a corner at the near post to give Newcastle the lead.
Four minutes later, Chris Thompson got down to push Smith's low shot against the post before claiming the rebound and just before half time the hosts doubled their lead when Jonathan Sheldon scored from close range after hesitancy in the Nelson defence gave him an easy scoring chance.
Nelson fought hard to get back in the game in the second half and created some good chances with Lance Ogunyode looking the most likely to get on the scoresheet. But the Newcastle offside trap frustrated many of their efforts.
However the Blues conceded a penalty after 65 minutes when Chris Budrys went down over John Luker's outstretched leg and Jordan Johnson drove in the spot kick for a 3-0 lead.
Lance Ogunyode's persistent run on the left took him deep into the home penalty area but again the final ball was cut out and, although the introduction of Chris Ogunyode added fresh impetus to Nelson's attack, they could still find no way through.
With ten minutes left, Newcastle added a fourth goal out of the blue when Chris Boast scored with a dipping 25 yard shot into the roof of the net. And Alan Nagington scored with a similar shot from the corner of the penalty area to give Newcastle a five goal lead on 88 minutes.
Chris Thompson made a spectacular save to keep out another long range goalbound shot but was beaten again in the final minute when a half clearance by the Nelson defence fell perfectly for Matthew Platt to volley into the top corner of the net to complete the 6-0 win for the home side.
