Sam Heap gave them the lead after only four minutes with a good break to the left of goal and a well measured low shot into the far corner past the keeper.
Two minutes later, Ashley Higgins might have doubled Nelson's lead but he lifted his shot over the bar from a good opening. On 13 minutes, Higgins again had sight of goal and, although his dipping shot beat Scott Davies in the visitors' goal, the ball rebounded to safety off the crossbar.
But the Blues always promised further goals and on 25 minutes, Luke Hargreaves' cross from the left wing found Chris Ogunyode at the far post who doubled Nelson's lead with a close range finish.
Although the visitors looked to attack at every opportunity, Nelson's strength in the tackle repeatedly won the ball. However, Abbey Hey felt hard done-by after 35 minutes when Otis Thomas had a goal disallowed for offside which they claimed resulted from a Nelson back pass.
On the stroke of half time, Luke Hargreaves' inswinging free kick found John Luker at the far post but his powerful header was straight at the keeper.
Four minutes into the second half, it was Nelson's turn to feel aggrieved when Chris Ogunyode did well to hold off a defender's challenge before finding the net with his shot only to have the goal disallowed by the referee who adjudged that he had been over physical with his challenge.
Four minutes later, Ogunyode provided a through ball for Sam Heap who held off a defender and shot past the keeper to put the Blues three goals ahead.
Heap had another chance after 63 minutes provided by Marc Berry's through ball but shot across the face of the goal from a narrow angle. Then after 65 minutes, Heap won the ball off the keeper and saw his shot headed off the goal-line by Lee Sinclair before Ogunyode's follow-up was saved by Davies who had managed to regain his ground.
Abbey Hey staged a come-back as they brought on their substitutes and Phil Prescott, Darren Wright and John Luker produced some vital tackles to keep out the visitors' strikers. Chris Thompson saw plenty of the ball, fisting away a series of high crosses in his goalmouth and did well to take Paul Monaghan's free kick under pressure. Daniel Doherty threatened the home defence with a good run after 82 minutes but, as the ball was cleared, Sam Heap found space in the visitors half and his low cross just evaded Chris Clarkson in front of goal.
Two minutes later, Clarkson looked sure to score but Davies blocked the ball with a dive at his feet and, from the rebound, Sam Heap shot high and wide. In the last minute, Berry and Hargreaves provided the chance for Clarkson to score Nelson's fourth goal with a low shot past the keeper from the right of the penalty area.
This way a satisfying performance at this stage of the season and it provides a base on which to build for the future. With more players in the pipeline, manager Alex Mugan can look forward with optimism to the coming games
