It was a disappointing day for the Blues as the Bullets fired in three goals without reply at the Town Ground on Saturday afternoon.
Alsager rocked the Blues as early as the seventh minute. A cross into the area from the right was headed clear, but Adam Strowde picked up the loose ball and crashed home into the bottom left hand corner.
Nelson were close to an equaliser five minutes later when Marcus Calvert charged down a backpass, but the ball went wide to the right of goal. And six minutes later Marc Taylor stung the home keeper's hands with a rasping drive from 25 yards.
Town should have extended their lead midway through the half when they broke away down the left. It looked straightforward for Geoff Basford to play a simple ball into the box for any one of two attackers, but he mishit it and allowed Thompson to collect.
On 25 minutes good work by Stuart Wellstead saw him surge through to the edge of the area, forcing a tremendous parry from Thompson with a low drive.
Nelson midfielder Nat Taylor threaded a superb ball to send Ashley Higgins through ten minutes before half-time, and only a desperate saving tackle preventing him getting the vital touch on the ball.
Alsager created the first real chance of the second half on 57 minutes when good work by Tom Swann down the right allowed him to cut inside and find Basford, who knocked the chance high and wide.
Luke Hargreaves delivered a perfect 50 yard crossfield ball to Calvert with 18 minutes left, but the Nelson striker just failed to hook the ball inside the last defender and the chance was gone.
Four minutes later Alsager doubled their lead. Hargreaves was caught in possession on the edge of the area, and Jordan Everson nipped in to rifle home into the top right hand corner.
Alsager almost grabbed a third in the fourth minute of injury time when Everson played in Joseph Roberts on the right hand side, and his shot was beaten away for a corner by Thompson.
But from the resultant corner, Alsager did get their third, and Roberts did grab a goal as he flicked on a near post corner into the right hand corner of the net.
Nelson now travel to Bootle on Wednesday night for their final away game, before a home game against Glossop North End on Saturday closes out the season.
