Nelson's under 14's romped to a 6-0 cup final win over Park Rangers on Sunday to clinch the Double.
Alan Taylor was the Cup Final hero at Padiham FC's Arbories Ground yesterday, bagging a hat-trick as the Blues emphatically took home the cup, with Callum Kennedy, Liam Grimshaw and Harry Hall also getting on the scoresheet.George Holding analyses the season:
"Nelson Football Club under 14’s have had another hard working season building on their success of the previous two years. The lads have continued to develop their beautiful passing game and new team members have integrated well into the squad adapting their style to accommodate the Nelson way.
"After a great start to the season in the Warburton’s Youth Football League the long break around the Christmas period due to the bad weather and a change in personnel affected the teams performance and their form took a dip however the lads turned this around in training. They started to re-focus and address the task in hand and rose to the challenges put before them.
"With the summer break fast approaching the team found themselves playing catch up with the postponed fixtures playing two sometimes three matches a week.
"It soon became apparent that the team were up there with a great chance of taking honours in not just the Warburton’s League Competition but also in its associated Dolphin Bakery Cup Competition.
"To accomplish this would be a big ask of the team but they stuck to the task and dug in.
"The focus, dedication and hard work from the squad paid dividends when with two games in hand the lads sealed the League Title, and were presented with the trophy by the league fixtures secretary before their final home game of the season at their Victoria Park home on the 23rd April 2009.
"The league table statistics speak for themselves demonstrating the commitment and resilience the team has shown throughout the entire season.
"Winning 13 of their 16 games, drawing two and losing just the one are outstanding statistics for any team. However when you see that during the campaign the team conceded only seven goals you begin to realise what an outstanding performance this has been by the team.
"Focus now turned to the Dolphins Bakery Cup Competition and with victories over Colne and Burnley United the Nelson Lads saw themselves up against Park Lane Rovers in the Final held at the Arbories Ground at Padiham on Sunday 17th May 2009, in front of a large supportive crowd of family and friends and other noted supporters and followers of good football.
"A fantastic first half performance on all parts of the pitch saw the Nelson Blues playing their trade mark passing game stamp their authority on the fixture with an emphatic 6 – 0 lead at the break. Despite the opposition ringing the changes and throwing everything at the Blues, the Nelson side had done all their good work in the first half were able to relax and rely on their already proven defensive unit to stand strong, which they did, and that’s how the game finished, 6-0 to the Blues.
"A well deserved finish to a great season with the Nelson Football Club Under 14’s getting the applause and recognition they deserve for their engagement and commitment throughout the season.
"The club, the coaching staff and parents are very proud of the lad’s achievements.
"Well Done Nelson Football Club Under 14’s."
