Bill Stell once again kindly provides the match report for the Reserve team victory at home to Padiham.

Nelson Reserves 2 Padiham Reserves 1

The 2nd string returned to winning ways on Saturday in the local derby against Padiham.

In a close game, Nelson always had the edge and went a goal up midway through the first half when some neat passing by Scott Bradley and Matt Richards found Pete Crossley who converted at the far post.

The second half followed a similar pattern to the first with Nelson playing the better football, but they had to wait until the 70th minute to double their lead when leading marksman Gaskill headed in a Jon Harding corner.

They had to survive a nervy final few minutes after the visitors scored, but held on to record a deserved win which takes them to 4th in the league.

This was a good all round team performance by the reserves who showed their character after two disappointing results.
