In a much changed side that lost to New Mills the week before the Reserves finally got their first home win of the season with a hard fought display against a young spirited Kirkham side.

Things got off to a bad start when after only 5 minutes the Blues conceded a free kick on the edge of their box which was superbly despatched by Kirkhams Carl Butler.

Chances came and went for both sides but midway through the first half Nelson started to get a hold of the game, playing some entertaining football but without reward.

The second half carried on in the same way with Nelson pushing hard for the equalizer, and on 60 minutes the Blues were level. A great cross from the left was met superbly by the towering head of Martin Aspinwall.

Kirkham came back and had a couple of penalty shouts turned down by the ref but Matt Mugan who was debutising in the Nelson goal was never really troubled.

The introduction of Jamie Stoddard on the right late on proved to be the masterstroke, as his powerful cross was to much to handle for the visiting keeper letting in Danny Oldfield to fire home Nelson's winner with only
10 minutes remaining.

Next up for the Reserves is an away game to Ashton Athletic on Saturday.
