NFC Youth fell just short of a clean sweep of trophies in the Tameside Football League, but still collected four pieces of silverware.

Nelson FC’s youth teams fell just short of a clean sweep of trophies in the Tameside Football League.

The club’s Blue team beat Royton FC 5-1 in the divisional cup final and also beat Chadderton 3-2 in the Manchester Challenge Cup, but unfortunately after beating the Manchester FA champions Moston 4-2, the second victory against Moston in the return game that would have made them Division A league champions eluded them.

After taking a early 2-0 lead the treble looked on for the Blues, but Moston fought back in an excellent game, and the game finished 3-3, meaning Nelson finished one point behind the champions.

Meanwhile Nelson’s White team capped an excellent week by beating Chaddy End 2-0 at Hyde United to clinch the B Division Cup, and a convincing 3-0 win over their nearest rivals Ardwick FC saw them through to the B Division league title with three games to spare.

Nelson Youth Development Manager Mark Whitaker said:  “It’s been an excellent season for both Nelson youth teams, winning three out of four cup finals, only losing to Fleetwood Town in the Lancashire FA County Cup final.

“Both teams have claimed the golden boot awards in their respective divisions, with Callum Smith for Nelson Blues scoring over 60 league & cup goals in the A divison, and also had a little help from his strike partner Luke Bradbury, who scored over 40 league and cup goals.

“Jack Macdonald from Nelson Whites also claimed the golden boot awarded for the B Division, scoring over 35 league and cup goals.

“The youth development squad now are looking for a new challenge by entering the North West Youth Alliance football league for season 2012/2013”.
