Nelson Football Club would like to thank all sponsors and contributors alike for their much appreciated support over the past season.
The following letter was sent out by chairman Alan Pickering:Dear Sponsor,
On behalf of all connected with Nelson Football Club I would like to thank you for the financial support you have given in the past. Last season the first team finished a very creditable seventh in the final league position, a marvellous achievement considering that we endured a change of management, not once, but twice during the season, and operated without a reserve team. All three youth teams and six junior teams competed successfully in their respective leagues and represented the club with sportsmanship and integrity.
There have been many other changes during the last twelve months, with the club undergoing a scheme of reconstruction in collaboration with the Football Association, the Lancashire Football Association, and the North West Counties Football League. Subsequently, the club’s administration will operate more professionally and effectively as personnel with appropriate expertise in their respective areas have been, and will continue to be integrated into the club.
I am sure you will be excited to learn that we have managed to secure the appointment of David Hall as manager and Ian Lang as his assistant. David has impeccable coaching qualifications and extensive experience at professional and non– league levels, he has worked with many current professional players during the past two decades. Ian has enjoyed a successful playing career at all levels within the non–league pyramid, being influential in the promotion of two clubs to the Nationwide Conference League, and has been a tower of strength and constant source of motivation for the players both on and off the field since he re-joined the club. We consider ourselves very fortunate to attract people of their calibre and are confident that their combined knowledge, expertise and energy will be instrumental in bringing success to the club.
In addition we are very pleased to announce that Micky Molloy has agreed to manage the reserves which will be reformed and reinstated into the NWCFL reserve division. Bill Stell who managed our under 18 youth teams last season will be Mick’s assistant, underlining our commitment to the club’s long term development policy.
We are very grateful to you, and indeed all our sponsors and hope you will continue to support the club.
Yours sincerely
Alan Pickering (Chairman)
