Northern League Dunston Federation Brewery are the visitors on Saturday for our First Round F.A. Vase game.
|
In fact their F.A. Cup campaign came to an end just last Saturday, as they suffered a narrow 1-0 home reverse to another Unibond Premier side Marine.
The Fed have come a long way since their humble beginnings as a works team as recently as 1975, and under chairman John Thompson they found success and steadily grew, earning a Northern League place in 1991.
They won the Second Division title at just their second attempt, and have remained in the First Division ever since. They won the Northern League Trophy for three consecutive seasons between 1997 and 2000, a competition containing the likes of renowned F.A. Cup fighters Bedlington Terriers.
Although they are currently languishing in 15th position in the First Division, wins from their games in hand could well see them up into mid-table, and this is going to be an extremely tough battle against a side in a higher division than our previous Northern League opponents this season Evenwood and Norton & Stockton, who we both saw off by a 2-1 scoreline.
We are certainly going to need to raise our game considerably from last Saturday's performance in order to reach the Second Round of the Vase for the second year running, though we know that if we play to our potential there is no reason why we couldn't.
