No game for the Blues, but a smashing set of results elsewhere, including one a couple of miles down the road.

Gone, and hopefully forgotten!
Our near neighbours Fishwick United had home advantage in the fifth round of the F.A. Vase against Didcot Town of the Hellenic Premier League. Manager Nigel Coates expressed his pleasure with the draw a couple of weeks ago, suggesting their opponents were possibly not one of the stronger teams left in the competition.

However, they were still too strong for the Holt House side, who ended up with "diddly-squat" from Didcot thanks to a 3-2 reverse, and exit from the tournament. Simmo will be crying in his beer tonight, but will no doubt recover in time to slip last season's win over AFC Wimbledon in this week's Colne Leader come Friday.

A grand result indeed, and further compounded by some surprises in the North West Counties Second Division. Cammell Laird travelled to Eccleshall - beaten by Nelson in their previous home match - with their unbeaten record, but return home tonight without it following a surprise 1-0 defeat.

Early season pacesetters Padiham have been finding life tougher of late too, and the slump continued this afternoon with an emphatic 3-0 loss away to Ashton Town. Blackpool Mechanics edged Darwen 3-2 by the seaside in the only other game to avoid postponement.

Things certainly couldn't have gone any better at all for Nelson today, and with Cammell Laird visiting Winsford United this Tuesday evening and then facing Padiham at home next Saturday, points must be dropped at the top.

However, this good fortune could all count for nothing if we don't take advantage over the next few weeks. One feels we must take all nine points on offer from the next three league games to be able to launch a last-ditch assault for a promotion place.
