Evenwood Town preview

What can we tell you about tomorrow's Victoria Park opponents Evenwood Town. Well not that much actually ...
Tomorrow afternoon sees us entertain Evenwood Town in the Second Qualifying Round of the F. A. Vase, after we superbly saw off Curzon Ashton a fortnight ago. But what do we know about them then?
Evenwood are members of the Northern League, and although they have won the league title on three previous occasions - in 1949, 1970 and 1971 - they have been down in Division Two since their relegation in 1984.
The last three seasons have been a particular struggle for the team, finishing in the bottom six each time. This term hasn't started much better for them, and after six league games they lie in 16th out of the 20 teams, having recorded just one win and one draw.
In 18 previous campaigns in the F.A. Vase Evenwood have only managed to claim ten wins, although one of those was just last season, an impressive 3-0 triumph away at our league rivals Chadderton.
With Carl Howarth, Stuart Mulligan and Micky Molyneux all unavailable for Nelson tomorrow, and Billy Carrington rated as doubtful - it could certainly be a tough match for us, but hopefully we can come through and emulate our fantastic run of twelve months ago.
